Dr. C. H. Cheung MD, BSc, FRCS(C)

Dr. Cindy Cheung joined the Clinic in 2002. Cindy attended Dalhousie University Medical School in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1993, and a medical degree in 1997. In 2002, before moving to Peterborough, Cindy graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Dalhousie University obtaining a specialty in Ophthalmology.

For extracurricular activities, Cindy enjoys walking, swimming, karate, and painting.

Dr. Cheung is a member of the Canadian Ophthalmology Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Cindy is also certified by the Medical Council of Canada, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. J. D. Hurst MD, FRCS(C)

Dr. Jonathan Hurst was born only a few meters from the Peterborough Clinic building in the old Civic Hospital (now just a parking lot across the street). He left the Peterborough area after high school to earn a liberal arts degree from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Jonathan returned to Canada to begin medical training in Kingston where he earned his medical degree in 2010 from Queens University and completely his residency training in Ophthalmology in 2015. In addition to his practice, he is an Associate Professor (adjunct) in the Queen’s University Department of Ophthalmology.

In the summer of 2015, Dr. Hurst and his wife, Janet Hurst, an anesthesiologist, took positions at PRHC. Dr. Jonathan Hurst started his comprehensive ophthalmology practice at the Peterborough Clinic at the same time. Since moving to Peterborough their family has grown with the addition of a son, James and a daughter, June. Jonathan’s interests include biking, skiing, windsurfing, travelling, and bodybuilding.

Dr. Hurst is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and a member of the Ontario Medical Association (OMA), Canadian Medical Association (CMA) and the Canadian Ophthalmology Society (COS)

Dr. K. D. McReelis MD, FRCS(C)

Dr. Kylen McReelis has been with The Peterborough Clinic since 2005. In addition to his practice here, he sits on the Executive Committee for the Clinic.

He attended the University of Toronto where he received his medical degree as well completed his postgraduate training there in Ophthalmology.

Dr. McReelis is dedicated to his profession and has held a variety of positions furthering his knowledge. He has been the Chief of Surgery at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Chair for Eye Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, Vice Chair Community Portfolio and lecturer for the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences at the University of Toronto

Today, Dr. McReelis can be found not only working diligently in his practice at the Clinic, but also acting as Staff Eye Physician and Surgeon with the Peterborough Regional Hospital and Sunnybrook Health Sciences. He gives some of his spare time to volunteer efforts with Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada – Northern Communities, Eye Van Program Ophthalmologist, and advisor for the Lion’s Club Screening Program.

No matter what, Dr. McReelis finds time to enjoy leisure activities like travel, hiking, and film. He is an avid skier and has earned his Level 1 CSIA Ski Instructor certification. One of his greatest accomplishments was summitting Mount Kilimanjaro with his family in 2023.

Dr. McReelis is a member of the Eye Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (EPSO), the Canadian Society of Ophthalmology (COS), and the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO).

Dr. J. Y-T. Yeung MD, MSc, FRCS(C)

Dr. Yeung joined the Peterborough Clinic in the fall of 2011. He attended the University of Toronto where he obtained his Master of Science in 2002 and Doctor in Medicine in 2006 and then completed his post-graduate ophthalmology residency training at Queen’s University from 2006 to 2011. After a few years in practice, Dr. Yeung took a sabbatical year to complete an extra year of sub-specialization fellowship training in Glaucoma and Complex Anterior Segment surgery at the University of Toronto during 2015-2016.

Dr. Yeung volunteered his services for 2 weeks in Syria with ORBIS International in 2011. He continues to have an interest in international ophthalmology.

In addition to his practice, Dr. Yeung is an adjunct professor in the department of Ophthalmology at Queen’s University and is involved in teaching at the medical school.

Dr. Yeung is a Fellow with the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) and member of the Ontario Medical Association (OMA), Canadian Medical Association (CMA), the Canadian Ophthalmological Society (COS), the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and the Canadian and American Glaucoma Societies (CGS and AGS).
